Introducing Eva Nevarez: AFM Local 47’s Director of Organizing

I’m Eva Nevarez and I’m pleased to share that I am stepping in as your union’s Director of Organizing. I’ve spent more than 20 years organizing, enforcing collective bargaining agreements, sitting at bargaining tables, managing high-profile projects and standing with members through tough fights.  I’ve worked with unions like UFW, Teamsters and IATSE. I also managed the AFTRA side of the SAG-AFTRA merger. No matter the industry, one thing has always proven true: when workers come together with purpose, change is inevitable – and, at times, infectious.

Here’s the truth: a union is only as strong as its members’ willingness to act as a union and create a culture where people don’t wait for change, they drive it. Let’s unapologetically make union standards part of the fabric of the music industry.

So this isn’t just an introduction. It’s a challenge to stay connected and step up where you can.

Here are some opportunities:

1. AFM Local 47 General Membership Meeting: General Membership Meetings are held quarterly and offer a chance for members in good standing to hear from elected leaders about the current state of the organization and participate in your democratic union. Mark your calendars for the next meeting which will be held on July 27, 2026.

2. May Day: also known as International Workers Day Rally and March: This year’s theme is “Workers Over Billionaires”. On the day this is released, we hope you are with us at MacArthur Park proudly representing AFM Local 47.  This is where we will be joining our union kin from across industries of Southern California in solidarity to send a message on key issues such as taxing the rich, defending worker rights, opposing ICE, and supporting pro-labor policies.

3. Stamp Out Hunger – National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive:  This is an annual event that AFM Local 47 participates in and will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 12:00 PM. This year, AFM Local 47 has adopted the Bicentennial/West Hollywood Post Office. Please register by scanning the QR code or by emailing me at e.nevarez@afm47.org.

This is where union members show their unified strength with the greater community.

I will be at these 3 events and look forward to saying hello – and working together to continue building the power of AFM Local 47.
