Convention Roundup

The AFM Convention provided an excellent opportunity for making new friends and strengthening relationships with various locals throughout the United States and Canada. Although the Local 47 delegation was seated with the Western Region group, our specific committee roles enabled us to share ideas and experience with colleagues from across the entire AFM.

AFM-EPF

Our pension fund, the AFM-EPF,  held a very informative workshop for Convention participants where they rolled out a new communications piece which is included in this Overture as the AFM EPF Quick Guide. There will be a series of bi-monthly webinars for musicians beginning in September. Look for more information from the Fund later this summer.

TEMPO

The AFM National Political Action Fund, TEMPO (Taskforce for Employment of Musicians Promotional Organization), is an essential element of our ability to influence legislators in Washington D.C. It is critical that we support legislators and candidates who fight for our issues, including copyright and performance rights, pension, NEA funding and more. The delegates at the convention raised almost $15,000 for TEMPO. You too can donate to TEMPO here: www.afm.org/what-we-are-doing/tempo

Since our union dues money cannot be used for political contributions, our AFM TEMPO relies on contributions from AFM members so please give if you are able.

AFM Annual Report

The AFM annual report, which details the Federation’s financial standing, has been released and is accessible via the AFM website. Please note that this document is located in the members-only section, requiring a login for viewing or downloading. If you need your AFM identification number—which is distinct from your Local 47 account number—please reach out to us at benefits@afm47.org for assistance.

Contact Information

Many musicians mistakenly believe that updating their records with Local 47 automatically updates that information across all databases. However, Local 47 only shares these updates with the AFM roster.

The following organizations function independently of the AFM and Local 47. Consequently, you must contact them directly to manage your personal information:

  • AFM-EPF: www.afm-epf.org
  • AFM New Use Department: Email newuse@afm.org
  • Film Musicians Secondary Markets Fund:  www.fmsmf.org
  • AFM&SAG/AFTRA IPRDF:  www.afmsagaftrafund.org
  • SAG/AFTRA FCU:  www.sagaftrafcu.org

It is your personal responsibility to ensure your mailing address and beneficiary designations are current with each entity.

To verify the beneficiary data held specifically by Local 47, please email our office at benefits@afm47.org.

If you have any questions regarding how to contact the various funds, please call us at 323-993-3160.
