The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce presented its third annual State of the Entertainment Industry Conference Nov. 21, which drew some of the top industry experts to discuss the future of Motion Picture, Television and Recording in Southern California.
Held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood & Highland, the conference was once again emceed by Vin Di Bona and presented by Variety. Now in its third year, the conference is regarded as the pre-eminent Hollywood forum that focuses on the importance of the Entertainment Industry to California and the steps that need to be taken to keep it healthy.
New California State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León addressed the audience asking people in the Industry to “come back home!” Three panels aimed to provide a detailed look at the industry.
The first panel addressed the topic of “Music in L.A.: Hitting High and Low Notes.” Panelists — including Local 47 member Rickey Minor, musical director of “American Idol” — discussed how to grow and retain the city’s music industry.
The second panel discussed “Hollywood’s New Stars: The Rising Business of Digital Entertainment.” Panelists addressed the rising talents on social media and the success of their business models.
The third panel addressed the topic “We Passed AB 1839… Now What?” and the value to working at home in the entertainment capital of the world.
TV personality Tom Bergeron presented Producer Vin Di Bona with the Commitment to California Award. Maury McIntyre, President and COO of the Television Academy talked about the “Golden Age” of Television shows and the related online dialogue.
