This year\u2019s Jazz Tribute Awards Concert presented by the Los Angeles Jazz Society was held Saturday, Nov. 19 at The Montalban Theatre in Hollywood honoring the one and only Quincy Jones with our 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award.<\/p>\n

\u201cCelebrating the World of Quincy Jones\u201d saluted him for his many years of mentorship and support of young musicians, along with his multitude of musical achievements. The extensive performer list includesd Patti Austin, Emily Bear, Jeff and John Clayton, Darynn Dean, Siedah Garrett, Justin Kauflin, Alfredo Rodriguez, Hubert Laws, Rickey Minor, Greg Phillinganes, Katie Thiroux and the LA Jazz Society Big Band.<\/p>\n

The Jazz Society presented the David L. Abell \u201cAngel\u201d Award to Jackie and Howard Banchik, recognizing their longtime support of young musician, jazz programs and the LA Jazz Society. The brilliant young trumpeter Evan Abounassar received the Shelly Manne Memorial New Talent Award.<\/p>\n

This annual awards tribute attracts jazz musicians and jazz lovers from all over Southern California in a celebration of jazz and the talented people who have made this extraordinary music their life\u2019s passion. With the dramatic budget cutbacks over the past few years, many of the music and arts programs in the schools have been eliminated. This annual Tribute is the Society\u2019s primary fundraiser helping to continue its highly acclaimed programs \u2013 Jazz in Schools, Bill Green Mentorship, Jazz Coolcats, and New Note.<\/p>\n
