(Photo: Bonnie Janofsky)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Exciting news to share from the American Federation of Musicians\u00a0100th Convention: Our own Local 47 President John Acosta has been elected to serve on the International Executive Board.<\/p>\n<p>Running on the Team Unity slate, as a member of the IEB Acosta will act as a conduit\u00a0to bring the concerns of our Los Angeles music community directly to our international leadership. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe AFM must balance the needs and interests of all musicians and Locals, whether large or small,&#8221; says Acosta. &#8220;Whether you&#8217;re a symphonic musician or a rock musician &#8211; or somewhere in between &#8211; our union must be responsive to all of its diverse members. As a member of the IEB I will strive to achieve that balance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through organizing and direct action we will solidify and strengthen our union.\u00a0With outreach and education we shall engage the next generation, and utilizing all of our gifts we will overcome our challenges.
