\u00a0<\/strong>LOS ANGELES (May 2, 2016) \u2013 Maria Newman<\/strong>, critically acclaimed violinist, violist, pianist and composer of classical music, will be celebrated this Wednesday, May 4th, along with nine other worthy women composers<\/strong>, at ASMAC\u2019s (American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers) <\/strong>open to the public \u201cFirst Wednesdays\u201d <\/strong>event at the Musicians Union in Hollywood at 817 Vine Street.<\/p>\n The evening, dubbed \u201cCelebrate Women Composers,\u201d <\/strong>includes musical presentations by Newman, daughter of nine-time Academy Award-winning composer, Alfred Newman<\/strong>, sister of film composers David Newman <\/strong>and Tom Newman<\/strong>, and first cousin of Randy Newman<\/strong>, as well as compositions by Nan Schwartz, Penka Kouneva, Bonnie Janofsky, Carolyn Yarnell, Susan Hurley, Elise Michelle, Marlene Hajdu, Asuka Ito <\/strong>and Mae Crosby.<\/strong><\/p>\n Live performances of compositions by these fine composers will feature legendary session singer, Sally Stevens<\/strong>, who has co-written songs with Dave Grusin, Burt Bacharach <\/strong>and Dominic Frontiere<\/strong>, as well as recording and performing vocalist, Leslie Soultanian, <\/strong>whose voice can be heard on many film and TV soundtracks including Pitch Perfect 2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Maria Newman <\/strong>has written for orchestra, choir, ballet, chamber\/solo works and has had her work performed at The Kennedy Center<\/strong>. Nan Schwartz <\/strong>is an arranger, composer, conductor, orchestrator and songwriter with 7 Emmy nominations. Penka Kounova <\/strong>is a film and game composer whose credits include the Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands <\/strong>game and who received the Hollywood Music in Media Award as well as two Ovation Awards. Carolyn Yarnell <\/strong>is a composer and visual artist who has won several awards including a Fullbright Fellowship, Guggeheim and Prix de Rome. Her work has been performed by the Seattle and Tanglewood Symphonies and at Carnegie Hall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
