{"id":147,"date":"2013-02-25T17:44:18","date_gmt":"2013-02-25T17:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/devpromusic.referrals47.org\/press\/?p=147"},"modified":"2015-02-26T03:35:23","modified_gmt":"2015-02-26T03:35:23","slug":"union-musicians-score-big-at-85th-annual-academy-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/afm47.org\/press\/union-musicians-score-big-at-85th-annual-academy-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Union Musicians Score Big at 85th Annual Academy Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HOLLYWOOD, CA (Feb. 25, 2013) \u2014 Professional Musicians, Local 47\u2014the Los Angeles chapter of the\u00a0American Federation of Musicians, the largest organization in the world representing professional union\u00a0musicians\u2014is proud to congratulate our members who composed and performed on the musical scores to a host\u00a0of this year&#8217;s Oscar-winning and -nominated films.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Argo (7 nominations, 3 wins including Best Picture)<\/li>\n<li>Flight (2 nominations)<\/li>\n<li>Life of Pi (11 nominations, 4 wins including Best Original Score)<\/li>\n<li>Lincoln (12 nominations, 2 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Maggie Simpson in &#8220;The Longest Daycare&#8221; (1 nomination)<\/li>\n<li>Moonrise Kingdom (1 nomination)<\/li>\n<li>Paperman (1 nomination, 1 win for Best Short Film)<\/li>\n<li>Snow White and the Huntsman (2 nominations)<\/li>\n<li>Ted (1 nomination)<\/li>\n<li>Wreck-It Ralph (1 nomination)<!--more--><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mychael Danna took home the Best Original Score award for &#8220;Life of Pi,&#8221; recorded on the Newman Scoring\u00a0Stage at 20th Century Fox with a 77-piece union orchestra. Member Alexandre Desplat composed the music to\u00a0Best Picture winner &#8220;Argo,&#8221; scored at Sony Pictures Studios with 64 musicians. Best Animated Short Film winner\u00a0&#8220;Paperman,&#8221; scored by Christophe Beck, was recorded Warner Bros. Studio with a 51-piece orchestra. Steven\u00a0Spielberg&#8217;s longtime composer John Williams, a Lifetime Member of Local 47, wrote the score for &#8220;Lincoln,&#8221;\u00a0which received two Oscar wins.<\/p>\n<p>The musicians union also proudly recognizes the incredible work of the live orchestra\u2014all members of Local\u00a047\u2014led once again by William Ross, who conducted the 79th Academy Awards show. This year the live\u00a0orchestra performed remotely from the Capitol Records building, located just a few blocks away from the awards\u00a0show broadcast at the Dolby Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We congratulate music contractor Bill Hughes who compiled the spectacular Academy Awards live orchestra,\u00a0whose playing was superb,&#8221; said Local 47 President Vince Trombetta. &#8220;I received numerous calls from musicians\u00a0across the country impressed by the quality of the music recorded at Capitol and the exceptional performance\u00a0from our Local 47 members during the live broadcast on awards night.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are proud of the composers and studios that chose to record with AFM musicians in Los Angeles, the best\u00a0musicians in the world,&#8221; said Local 47 Vice President John Acosta. &#8220;The musicians union stands committed to\u00a0encouraging more films and TV shows to be scored union, here in Los Angeles.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em> About Professional Musicians, Local 47: Professional Musicians, Local 47 is a labor organization formed by and for\u00a0musicians over a century ago that promotes and protects the concerns of musicians in all areas of the music business.
