However, it\u2019s clear that users of Suno, Udio and other platforms aren\u2019t creating something out of nothing, they are being offered the raw material of our music to work with. We believe that if human beings made the music in the first place, we should have the right to consent to our music being blown up and reassembled by others, we should be given credit and <em>paid<\/em> for the use of our music. Human Played &#8211; Human Paid!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll be hearing more about this core issue as we get closer to the next round of AFM negotiations with the major record labels in early November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other recording news, we sent a survey about the Limited Pressing Agreement to hundreds of Local 47 musicians who played on sound recordings last year. Unlike the Sound Recording Labor Agreement which is an AFM contract, the Limited Pressing Agreement is a local contract that we update here at home. Many thanks to the many members who have answered the survey, and helped us make the agreement smarter and more effective. If you are involved in a recording project, Limited Pressing might be the right fit &#8211; contact our Business Representative <a href=\"mailto:russell.winkler@afm47.org\">Russell Winkler<\/a> for more info!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AFM-AMPTP Agreement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking of surveys, the steering committee for our film\/TV contract, AFM, RMA and Local 47 have sent out a survey of members who are ratifiers for this crucial labor agreement. Check your email! And, we\u2019ve launched a series of home meetings to ensure we hear every voice and give members every opportunity to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Local CBA\u2019s &#8211; negotiations, negotiations, negotiations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our administration is in progress with a number of local collective bargaining agreements. We currently have negotiations scheduled for the Pacific Jazz Orchestra and Music Center Dance, and we are working with committees and preparing to schedule bargaining for the Palm Springs Symphony, the Pasadena Symphony and the Pantages Theatre. Each negotiation begins with the committee of musicians, holding meetings, gathering data, reaching out to survey their colleagues and developing proposals and a strategic approach. I wish that all Local 47 members could have a window into the selfless, smart and dedicated participation of the committee members from every one of these orchestras.&nbsp; It has been a pleasure and an honor to work with each of these committees!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>YOLA!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most exciting and progressive negotiations we are involved in is for the first contract for the Teaching Artists of the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA). We are in bargaining with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, the employer for YOLA, and are making progress. Our Director of Organizing Eva Nevarez, Counsel Lewis Levy and I have been working assiduously with a bargaining committee that represents all of the five YOLA sites, and comprises standout leaders who bring endless dedication, stamina and creativity to this long process, supported by a contract action team brimming with ideas and energy. We are hoping for a settlement soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Federal Tax Credit for film\/television<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thousands of AFM musicians orchestrate, prepare, and perform the musical scores for film, television, and streaming projects.&nbsp; It is time for our government to allow us to compete for jobs in a global industry.&nbsp; A federal tax incentive is necessary to keep jobs in the United States and grow the sector. We are proud to be in coalition with a broad range of labor unions and other stakeholders to support the Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act (MPTERA).&nbsp; Led by Senators Scott (R-SC) and Schiff (D-CA) and Representatives Moran (R-TX), Sanchez (D-CA), Jack (R-GA), and Friedman(D-CA), this proposal has the support of Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate. &nbsp;Please take a moment to sign the <a href=\"https:\/\/actionnetwork.org\/letters\/tell-congress-pass-the-bipartisan-motion-picture-television-and-entertainment-revitalization-act-mptera?source=direct_link&amp;&amp;link_id=0&amp;can_id=fab5d9de9b26faa86736fdcf07ac3a8a&amp;email_referrer=email_3420729&amp;email_subject=congress-just-introduced-a-bipartisan-us-federal-film-tv-incentive-bill-lets-tell-them-to-pass-it&amp;\">letter of support here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Mid-Term Elections<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, we have mid-term elections coming up on November 3. California is one of the states that sends a mail ballot to every registered voter, and our ballots will hit the mail on October 5. This is one of the most important elections in our history, and Local 47 strongly encourages you to cast your ballot, and cast your vote early.
