On August 1, 2024, the City of Burbank proudly presented the first Media Industry Expo & Job Fair, a groundbreaking event designed to give students the knowledge and tools needed for a career in the media industry.
Hosted by Woodbury University and Burbank Public Library, the event featured area organizations and businesses involved in the entertainment industry. AFM Local 47 hosted a booth alongside many other unions including the Art Directors Guild, SAG-AFTRA, Stuntmen’s Association, Production Workers Guild, Motion Picture Sound Editors, and several IATSE Locals including Motion Picture Editors Guild 700, Cinematographers Guild 600, Costume Designers Guild 892, Art Directors Guild 800, Motion Picture Costumers 705, Studio Electrical Lighting Technicians 728, Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild 706, the Animation Guild 839, and Motion Picture Studio Grips, Crafts, and Set Operations 80.
Organizations represented included Society of Composers and Lyricists, Verdugo Jobs Center, CA Employment Development Department, Cast & Crew, the Village Acting Studio, Entertainment Industry Professionals Mentoring Alliance, and Burbank International Film Festival, among many others.
The four-hour event was attended by more than 3,500 attendees, and the AFM Local 47 booth received nonstop foot traffic and attention which generated many meaningful connections and conversations. The surprisingly large turnout highlights just how important the entertainment industry is to Burbank. It was truly inspiring to see all the connections made and the opportunities shared throughout the event.
Event organizers already have the second annual event in the works, and we look very much forward to participating next year.
