AFM Local 47 Life Members Charles Fox and Paul Williams to be honored

Singer/songwriter/actor/voice actor PAUL WILLIAMS may be best-known to younger generations as “the Butcher” in this year’s summer blockbuster Baby Driver, or for his 2014 Grammy win for Album of the Year with Daft Punk. The American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers is proud to announce him as an honoree at the 2017 ASMAC Golden Score Awards, along with his Love Boat-theme collaborator, composer/arranger CHARLES FOX.

Orchestration II with Dr. Norman Ludwin

Dr. Ludwin provides access to online resources with an interactive website that includes essential class materials, scores and listening samples. Even if you have limited or no experience in orchestration, Ludwin strongly encourages you to attend to learn this important craft that can boost your career.

Students will continue the study of orchestration and elements of texture and form by looking at contemporary concert music, analysis of different composers’ methods of orchestration, and extensive study of film music. Using classic scores and scores he himself has recently worked on, Ludwin will instruct on cues and selections from Michael Giacchino, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, and Thomas Newman, among others. The ending course project is a recording of the students’ original compositions by the Symphony 47 orchestra.

You must be an AFM Local 47 member in good standing to attend this free course.

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 3, 2017) — Los Angeles film and television musicians will perform a free concert at City Hall on Saturday, Aug. 19 to raise awareness of AB 1300, the Music Scoring Tax Credit Bill aimed at bringing more of this work to California.

Keeping the Score in California, a free concert and media event sponsored by the American Federation of Musicians Local 47, will feature live performances by Emmy-nominated music director Rickey Minor (“American Idol,” Grammy Awards, Super Bowl Halftime Show); Siddhartha Khosla, composer for the hit TV series “This is Us” recently nominated for 11 Emmys; and special surprise musicians to be announced.
