About Irving R. Bush

Mr. Bush was born in L.A. and at age 16 joined Local 47. He received his BA and MA at Cal State University Los Angeles. His career encompassed playing with top name big bands, studio work, motion picture dates, and record dates. For years he enjoyed being Nat King Cole’s personal lead trumpet player. In 1962 “Irv” joined the LA Philharmonic as Associate Principal Trumpet. He designed a line of mouthpieces for trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn and piccolo and still found time to write a book titled “Artistic Trumpet Technique and Study” (revised in 1995 as “Trumpet Players Blow With Good Vibrations”). He was a design consultant for Benge Trumpet located in Burbank and The Olds Company – Trumpet Division. He taught trumpet at Cal State LA and USC. Throughout his entire musical career he remained a dedicated and active member of the Musicians Union Local 47.
