6/28/2023 - Additional Information Regarding AFM Local 47 Data Breach

Notice of Data Breach

WHAT HAPPENED?

On Monday, June 26, 2023, at approximately 8 a.m., the American Federation of Musicians, Local 47 (“Local 47”) discovered that at approximately 6:30 a.m., hackers had perpetrated a ransomware attack against the Union. Local 47 was unable to access its computers, or to send or receive emails, and acted immediately to determine the scope of the breach and restore the reasonable integrity of its data system. Local 47 promptly notified the FBI and local law enforcement and submitted reports. Law enforcement did not request that this notification be delayed pending investigation. This attack is shocking and unexpected, and Local 47 takes its members’ data security seriously.

WHAT INFORMATION WAS INVOLVED?

Local 47 is still investigating the exact scope of the data breach and exactly what information was involved. It appears to have included the following information about Local 47 members and non-members:
     - Names, addresses, Social Security Numbers, birthdates, membership passwords, possibly credit card information, and possibly any medical records provided to Local 47

WHAT WE ARE DOING

Local 47 is cooperating with law enforcement and investigating this attack. We are currently in the data recovery process and rebuilding our infrastructure so that employees can return to work and service our membership. We are also continuing to explore additional steps to protect our members and our Union in the aftermath of this attack.
